So many sacrifices for nothing at all
3 min readThe political opposition has set the goal of revoking the system through the resignation of President Jovenel Moïse. Almost a quarter of resistance without respite, it finally leads to nothing, if not to the dramatic deterioration of the already precarious living conditions in the country. Deprived of all services, even freedom of movement, the population still has work to do.
The opposition seems already exhausting all its means in the battle against the regime in place including the patience and the hardship of the population. However, it is far from fulfilling its goal of changing the living conditions of the population through the resignation of the tenant of the national palace followed by the change of the system generating social exclusion, corruption, misery, inequality of all kinds among others. For three months, the country is besieged in a total way to the call of these politicians who, like Jovenel Moïse, promise to the population mountains and wonders. Balance: several dozen deaths; hundreds of wounded, circulation hampered; public and private property that has been sacrificed, vandalized and burned; increase in the unemployment rate; job loss, price increase for all products; dysfunctional informal trade, business closure; total paralysis of school activities are among other sacrifices to which the population was obliged to consent.
At the same time, the Haitian state was non-existent in the meantime. Opposition on his side had total control of the situation. She keeps talking about being fed up. She swore by the resignation of the head of the Haitian diplomacy with which she refuses all talks. For this last quarter, the country has experienced an unprecedented crisis with days of violence incomparable. On the one hand, armed gangs are tearing each other apart and armed civilians ransom passers-by behind barricades, street demonstrations and all over the country. Added to this are the health problems. The Police, the only legally recognized armed entity, is eclipsed by the events. Despite her efforts, she is accused of everything.
In the meantime, opponents continue to feed messages riddled with violence without taking care to condemn the repetitious acts that are repeated behind the barricades, without denouncing the attacks targeting the police stations. The obsession is to make the country ungovernable asphyxiant suddenly all activities for the sole purpose of seizing power. On the other hand, the terrorized population is crossing its fingers waiting for the outcome of the situation as soon as possible. Inoffensive, she notes with amazement the disappearance in a wink of everything she possessed in terms of activities and economy. At the same time, politically antagonistic insusciants continue their tightrope practice.
System change: Education and Jovenel Moïse are the first to eradicate
The most plausible finding of these « lock country » weeks is the paralysis of the education system. Politicians in their rebellion against power have found it necessary to use the future of Haitian schoolchildren as a shield to fight the guarantor of the smooth running of institutions. Since September, this sector of activity is dysfunctional and its reopening is conditioned by the departure of the tenant of the national palace. They never missed the opportunity to say: « if Jovenel Moïse leaves today, the school will resume its rights the next day ». Some have even argued that school activities should not be restarted until all the problems affecting the system are solved. It is the same for the head of state who, according to the protesters, is not part of the equation to resolve the crisis. If he has to leave to start the much desired change, the school used as a shield will not be functional until he packs his bags.
To emphasize, the hostilities have some respite in recent days. However, the population is still skeptical, despite the will of the protesters. Totally decapitalized, the future of the popular mass is proving increasingly uncertain. The political actors try to implement other strategies including the search for compromise but, they insist, without the participation of the dolphin of Michel Joseph Martelly.
