An agreement that rallys everyone but reassures no one
2 min readObviously, the agreement between the leaders of the opposition the past weekend is accepted by all. No divergent reactions or opposition clearly expressed to this agreement. However, in view of the merged interests of November 8 and 9 and the terms of reference of the document, nothing can be taken for granted.
Looks like the agreement was authoritative. So far, according to the commitment made by the signatories, the close is respected. No conflicting positions or denunciations, let alone clearly expressed opposition. At the level of almost all sectors, it is the flat calm while waiting for the continuation. The population remains on its toes while the protagonists promise to advance with no reassuring.
The plural opposition is, for the time being, united, that is to say, granted behind a single project. This opposition we are talking about is not essentially political, since this agreement includes the Haitian civil society, which relentlessly demands the departure of Jovenel Moïse and the revocation of the system. She actually claimed the same things, however, she did not see the resolution of the crisis the same way. It finally get along by rallying all sectors on the same table and around the same goal, if only for the time being.
As true as all have agreed on the need for the president to leave power as soon as possible and his replacement by a judge of the Court of Cassation, more than a doubt still the strength of this agreement. Returning to past examples, people questioned for this purpose remain perplexed wishing instead to wait instead of positioning themselves as a prophet of misfortune. According to them, the gesture is significant but, by reviewing the actors in question, the interviewees are not at all optimistic about the duration of this coalition.
Some more radical, assimilate to a theater this consensus. For them, it is not an agreement that aims to improve the living conditions of the population. It is rather, they believe, a strategy to not lose everything as was the case in 2004. In their opinion, the opposition on the downside pretending to concede certain things to continue to exist and ensure that the transition does not escape their fingers.
Further, the commentators welcome this respite observed in the « pays lock » movement. They say they hope to be wrong if not, political opponents will know more degrading spells than the current head of state.
Recall that despite the agreement, signatories such as the Democratic Bloc for national recovery still believe that it was not necessary to go to the Supreme Court. Given the turning points of the discussions, he made the necessary concession, said one of his representatives. Another group that did not support the cassation « Mache kontre » has also yielded, perhaps for the sake of democracy. But reading between the lines, they are concessions despite. Added to this is the abstention of Fanmi Lavalas.
