2 min readThe main officials of the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP), in a meeting of Friday, November 15, 2019, in its appendix to Delmas 83, has developed an action plan which consists in rearranging the 2019-2020 school calendar, develop a program with minimal skills and psycho-social support to the educational community.
In a MENFP statement dated 16 November describing this meeting, the different members of this structure essentially aimed to harmonize the work initiated in the minister’s office and the actions undertaken by the Directorate General to prepare the Priority Action Plan for the continuation of school activities and post-crisis management.
In this sense, three main points have been retained in this global vision. First, the reorganization of the 2019-2020 school calendar; Secondly, the development of the minimum-skills program to validate the school year for the basic and secondary levels taking into account a minimum of 120 to 140 working days; Tertio, a psycho-social support to the educational community, targeting mainly students, especially in the most affected areas.
Two reworked timetable proposals were on the agenda to continue school activities either in early December, or early January for areas where school activities are affected.
Jackson Pléteau, chief of staff and Dr. Meniol Jeune, general manager share this vision which takes up the concerns and the initial objectives set by the owner of the MENFP, Pierre Josué Agénor CADET by launching the first works.
In addition, a communication campaign on the right to education, the provision of school kits and support for the school subsidy for children living in extreme poverty in difficult areas is envisaged.
Thus, the two most affected technical directorates, namely the DEF and the DES, have exposed in turn their provisional work to facilitate the adaptation of the calendar redeveloped by the Planning Directorate for non-functional schools since the beginning of the crisis, in order to validate the school year.
The product will have to be available in less than two weeks, according to the directors of these entities, Marie Nadine Henry (DEF), and Maxime Mésilas (DES).
Mr Ralphson Pierre, head of UTICE, also announced his preparations, with the support of the Information System Unit (USI), to assist the technical directorates of education with the provision of digital educational resources, through a platform under construction.
It should be noted that the Technical and Financial Partners (TFPs) plan to contribute to the Sector’s Priority Action Plan. A working meeting is planned in this regard with the MENFP during the next week on the planned actions and possible financial support. The Education Counselor at the Presidency, Guichard Doré, was also present at this meeting. At the end of the meeting, he applauds the work in progress and encourages the efforts of the MENFP for the continuation of school activities.
