Drama in Cap-Haitien: a collision has left 4 dead in Vertières

1 min read

A clash between a merchant and demonstrators has caused 4 deaths in the early evening yesterday Monday in the Vertières area, Cap-Haitien.

4 people were killed on Monday, November 18 around 5 pm in Vertières, southern entrance to the city of Cap-Haitien. At the root of this drama, an altercation between a merchant and protesters who wanted to erect barricades of burning tires in this area.

If the first victim died after being hit by a projectile, the other 3 including a woman died in a carbonized container that housed the trade of « Koma » well known.

According to preliminary reports, the first incident occurred when the so-called « Koma » reportedly fired, killing a 17-year-old boy before fleeing.

As a reaction, relatives of the young as well as members of the population, under the effect of violent anger would have attacked the trade of the alleged murderer by burning it while 3 individuals were there.

It should be noted that during previous protests in the Christophian City, Koma had always opposed anti-government protesters setting up barricades in the vicinity of his shop.

This event took place, let us remember, at Vertières, where the anniversaries of this historic battle that led to our independence are generally commemorated. Unfortunately this year, due to the intense protests calling for his departure, President Jovenel Moïse once again avoided visiting this historic site.
